Nexuiz In-Depth video podcast

There is a video-podcast that deals with the technical aspects of the game, especially with features that are either hidden (→ they can only be found in the console, not in the menu) or not very obvious or easy to understand.

The podcast's YouTube channel can be found here. Make sure to check out the Episode 1 (Introduction) to find out more details about the series.

It was founded by GreEn`mArine who is going to be one of the main hosts. However, in the long run more hosts should help doing new episodes, as this way we will get more episodes done and can ensure that the planned “one episode / week” schedule can work.

Your help is needed!

I need more volunteers working on new episodes, otherwise the series will stop after episode 9 already. Have a look at this article to find out more: Creating new episodes

Here only the content is known, but the episodes haven't been produced yet, and it's not clear yet which number the episode will get. If you want to be a host of the show, this is your chance to produce one or more of these episodes! Contact me.

Suggestions / ideas

Here you can post ideas/suggestions!

  • Small things, not related to each other (mini-tips)
    • make use of the toggle command (for cvars)
    • stopsound command (stop annoying sound that doesn't stop anymore, e.g. rocket fly sound or elevator moving all the time)
    • disconnect script together with “togglemenu” command to immediately show the menu again, change F11 keybind for that (alternatively: seta scr_menuforcewhiledisconnected 1 and seta scr_conforcewhiledisconnected 0)
    • tell and its usage, just use the players IDs, as it will only work with non-colored names (it's not safe to use the playername with autocompletion)
    • cl_handicap setting (set before connecting, it affects the damage you receive, not the damage you make), it belongs to the non-saved variables
    • explain the antilag feature, that it does not remove “lag” but only simulates ghost copies of the other players
    • “m” shows the complete (radar)map as overview
    • status (1 or 2) command, useful for finding out how much CPU the server takes, find the player Ids, find out the version of the server engine
  • explanation of the onslaught game mode, advertise it a little bit, it's a great mode! see guide here: http://www.alientrap.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3834
  • Explain the Havoc Mod, maybe also explain the difference between mod, game mode and modificator
  • funny stuff
    • funny impulse commands (Investigate please, no idea what is possible)
    • v_idlescale
    • v_flipped
    • v_psycho
    • scr_stipple
  • Configuring the map-autodownload: setting proxies from outside, canceling downloads (command), setting max DL speed in menu
  • Any cool tools from NexuizNinjaz?
  • General FPS tuning guide
  • advanced console scripting stuff
  • demo camera in 2.5 demos
  • get info about the server as client
    • lsmaps
    • cmd maplist (see g_maplist of the server)
    • cmd cvar_changes
    • records which list all the CTF or race records on a server
